Stories Around the World | Prasiddhi Singh and the Prasiddhi Forest Foundation
Who is Prasiddhi Singh
Hello! Let me introduce you to an incredible young changemaker, Prasiddhi Singh. This young girl from Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, is on a mission to make the world greener and more sustainable. At just four years old, Prasiddhi witnessed the devastating impact of Cyclone Vardah in 2016, which uprooted countless trees in her neighborhood. This event sparked a fire in her to take action. Born on October 31, 2012, she’s already founded the Prasiddhi Forest Foundation, making a huge impact on environmental conservation across India.
What Problem is Prasiddhi Solving?
Prasiddhi is tackling some of the biggest environmental issues we face today: deforestation and environmental degradation. In India, like many other countries, these problems are causing severe damage, contributing to climate change, and harming ecosystems and communities. Prasiddhi recognized the urgent need to address these issues to ensure a sustainable future for our planet.
How is She Solving This Problem?
Through her Prasiddhi Forest Foundation, she’s taking practical steps to make a real difference:
- Tree Planting Initiatives: Organizing tree-planting drives and mobilizing communities to create green spaces.
- Awareness Campaigns: Conducting workshops and educational programs to highlight the importance of trees and environmental conservation.
- Collaborations: Partnering with schools, NGOs, and government bodies to ensure her projects are sustainable and scalable.
- Utilizing Technology: Using geotagging and other technologies to monitor the growth and health of the trees planted.
What Has She Accomplished?
Prasiddhi Singh’s accomplishments are simply spectacular. As of July 2024, she has successfully planted 140,000 trees as the count is increasing with each plantation. Her efforts have led to the creation of numerous micro-forests, transforming barren lands into green havens. Prasiddhi has received several accolades for her work, including the Prime Minister National Child Award 2021 (which is the Highest Civilian Honour) as the youngest social entrepreneur, as well as the Youngest fruit forest creator of India as per the India book of Records 2020. She is also the Youngest keynote speaker of “Harvard Model United Nations” India 2021. Moreover, she is the Brand Ambassador for the nationwide girl literacy campaign – “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” by the Tamil Nadu Government and she is Globally recognised as the “Earth Day” Network Rising Star, Global Sustainability Award 2021 by GCPIT & the Top 100 Global Child Prodigy 2022. She was Awarded as Byju’s Young Genius, an initiative of Network 18. Last but not the least, she was the youngest speaker at G20, India and UN COP 28 Dubai. She has also been featured in numerous national and international media outlets, such as the Times of India, The Hindu, NDTV, BBC News, and CNN, bringing global attention to her cause.
What are Her Goals for the Future?
The Prasiddhi Forest Foundation is working on various nature-based solutions and aims to expand by partnering with the government and strengthening their rural outreach. They’ve already planted 140,000 trees in 99 locations, undertaken lake restoration, agroforestry, and mangrove plantation projects, and supported community initiatives like women’s empowerment. For her personal goals, Prasiddhi is eager to explore the “four S”: soil (the underground world), spirituality (self-awareness), sustainability (promoting eco-conscious living), and space (understanding our place in the universe). She enjoys activities like skating, swimming, painting, yoga, meditation, reading, and traveling.
